                     Wesley Monday Walking Group

The Monday Wesley Walking group was started about fifteen years ago by George Evans and included people from St. Stephens Church.

Ken Dey took over the leadership some time later and it changed into more of a tramping group so that we did more ambitious one day tramps like climbing Mt Te Aroha and Mt Karangahake. We have done a lot of the DOC tracks in the Kaimai Ranges and over in the Rotorua area.

We only do tramps that can be done in a day. It is a very informal group of about fifteen or so people, but normally about eight to ten come on the day. We do it because we enjoy the bush, the outdoors and each other's company.

                 Wesley Wednesday Walking Group

For the past several years a fine weather walking group has been meeting on Wednesdays at 10 am for short walks of up to 1 1/2 hours. We take lunch with us and enjoy each others companionship. Most who come have been members of the Monday Tramping group but are unable to do the longer treks.

We walk to Tauranga's parks and board walks, our beaches, around the Mount, or the bush and kauri walks which sometimes means travel to Katikati or Te Puke.

There are many short tracks designated by councils and we probably walk most of them 2 or 3 times a year.We walk for the company, to stay fit and to enjoy the open spaces and to see the scenery from a different angle - e.g. the main railway bridge to Matapihi, which can be exciting if a train is rumbling through.

We pay $2+ to our driver and share transport. Anyone is welcome. We recently spent a morning walking down part of the Papamoa Drainage Reserve. It was a beautiful, but cold, winter's day.                  Monday Walking Group Story Archive

In this section you'll find a recorded history of many of the walks around the Bay of Plenty. The stories about the tramps are e-mails written by Maurice Boniface to his family; hence the reference to his wife as "Mum". Included are photographs of some of the sights and artifacts they've discovered. They invite you to relax with a cup of tea and spend some time reading about their adventures...then join them!
