The Leaders

The leaders of Wesley are a diverse group of people who share the common goal of ensuring the health and growth of the church.  As part of preparing for the future, the Leaders have established a Joel Committee who are thinking and praying around the vision and mission of the church.  By the end of the year / early 2004, we hope to have a clearly expressed vision statement that will direct our energies and resources.

Rev Andre le Roux (left), from the South African Methodist Chruch, joined Wesley as their presbyter in February 2003.  His passion for preaching and teaching, together with creative worship and down to earth preaching have helped the congregation to grow.
One of the main growth areas has come in the area of children's ministry.  This has been headed up by Marilyn Panapasa (right, centre).  Sharing her stories are Tulua Leha (left) a congregational rep, and Barbara Shepherd (right) who co-convenes our pastoral ministries.

The area of Pastoral work has recevied new life with the inititation of In Touch Ministries.  This ministry works at keeping in touch with the various people who are associated with the church - member or visitor.  Barbara shares the leadership of that role with Marlene Foster (below, right).  Francis Leilua (centre) convenes our education ministries while Beverly Robertson co-convenes our financial work.

The leaders meet regularly, not only to receive reports on the various ministries that are being undertaken, but to consider the future work of the church too.
Recently Lisa Gunanayagam (right) was elected as Parish Steward.  Her faithful participation in the life of the church led to her appointment.  Brad Shaw (to the left) convenes our property committee.
Our congregation enjoys a wide diversity of culture which is celebrated in the make up our leadership.  Mervin McNickle (left) and Tohi Leha (right) are congregational reps.  They feedback to the leaders the feelings of our people.  Christine Knock (centre left) and Betty Shaw (centre right) listen in as co-convenors of the worship committee.
Of course the women form an essential part of the life of any church.  Olive Shieffelbein (right) represents the Methodist Women's Fellowship on Leader's Meeting.  The MWF is a strong and integral part of the life of our church.
Oh, and then there is Jack McCoskrie (left).  Other than give us all a hard time, he works with our money.

Yes, it does seem strange... but it is easier to control Jack if you can see him... all the time...!
