Journeys End Campsite, North Canterbury



Amberley Lodge & Hall

- A 10 room block with toilets and showers. Rooms sleep 2-5.

- Large hall & kitchen

- Caravan points

- Three small cabins

- Total beds available - Amberley Lodge (40), Cabins (17)

Week nights: $8 per person a night, minimum charge $90 per night.

Weekends: minimum charge $180 for the weekend.

Leigh Lodge

A bond of $300 is required for all non-church bookings.

Journeys End Campsite, North Canterbury

The Journeys End Camp is 300m above sea (and worry) level at the east end of Smarts Road, about 6km from the North Loburn School. At the school turn right (east) into Bradys Road, at the T intersection turn left (north) into Loburn Terrace Road. At the next T bend follow the road round to the right into Smarts Road and continue (east) 2.5km to the camp at the end of the road.

The camp is signposted from the North Loburn School.

The camp is divided into two main areas - Amberley and Leigh. They may be booked together or separately.

Amberley, the main site, consists of a Hall with a log fire and a kitchen and lounge, Amberley Lodge which sleep up to 40, three separate cabins which sleep another 17, and a chapel.

There are 16 caravan power points.


Leigh is a completely separate facility on the other side of the sport's field. Leigh Lodge sleeps 23 and has a log fire, kitchen, dining-lounge area, toilets, showers and a laundry.

There are 5 caravan power points.


The Grey River which is on three sides of the camp, provides an area of quiet and an area to be enjoyed.

The swimming hole is an attraction.

Leigh Lodge

Leigh Lodge is a self catering unit which sleeps 23.

There are 7 rooms consisting of a set of bunks and 1 single bed and 1 room with one set of bunks. There are 4 showers and 5 toilets.

The Kitchen has sinks, a microwave, a stove, a gas hob, 2 fridge freezers and a zip water heater.

The Dining room has a sink, a zip water heater and a fridge. There are 6 round tables.

The Lounge has lounge chairs, TV and video player and a log burner.

The laundry in the outside shed, has tubs, toilets and an automatic washing machine.

There are 5 caravan points and a gas BBQ is available on request.

Leigh Lodge is a comfortable unit suitable for small conferences and retreats, well away from Amberley Lodge.

Directions from the Waimakariri Bridge on the Northern Motorway

1. Head north on Christchurch Northern Motorway

2. Turn left at Lineside Rd. Instructions 3, 4, 5 & 6 just follow the main route to Rangiora

1. Damage to property, buildings and contents, will be charged for.

2. No alcoholic beverages or recreational drugs are permitted on site.

3. No smoking allowed in buildings.

4. Furniture, including mattresses, is not to be taken out of rooms.

5. No amplified music outside after dark. (We have a number of neighbours.)

6. No firearms are permitted on the property. (It is an offence to shoot within 2km of a campsite.

7. In accord with camping ground regulations no dogs are allowed.

8. No outdoor fires to be lit. The cost of fighting any fire will be your responsibility.

9. It is necessary to obtain a permit to enter the forest, otherwise you are trespassing. (Permits may be obtained from Rayonier NZ Ltd phone Rangiora 03-310 7612.)

10. Public liability cover is the responsibility of the group hiring Journey's End.

Your cooperation in observing these rules assists the committee in providing a site for camping and outdoor recreation as at low a cost as possible.

Please tidy the site and buildings before you leave Journey's End, and take your rubbish with you.. A checklist will be provided with the key. Leave the campsite in the condition you would like to find it.         

Please also note:

We ask users of the camp to provide all their own consumable items, including toilet paper, dishwashing and cleaning materials, newspaper and matches. At some times of the year sandflies can be a pest, so we suggest taking insect repellent.

Please contact Barry Harkness (ph 03-327 7841) in the week before your camp to arrange to collect a key for Journey's End.
