Methodist Alliance

Forum 2019

Radical Methodism – Radical Change

The second Forum was held for the Methodist Alliance on in November 2019, at Wesley Rata Village and was well attended with the majority of people staying on site in the old Strand residential care building.

The Forum is an opportunity to celebrate the work that is being done by individual members and what has been achieved collectively as the Methodist Alliance.  As the Forum this year is being held at  Wesley  Rata Village, people will be able to stay on site at Strand which will create extra opportunities for networking and sharing with each other.

The full programme can be viewed here.

Day 1 - Friday 8th November 2019

We started with a powhiri, followed by a mihimihi – where we introduced ourselves and shared where we are from, and shared the place we call 'home.'  People were from the far North and the deep South, the East and the West.

We had presentations from the five communities of practice giving a quick overview of their work and reflecting on the following what they are most proud of to date?  What they hope to achieve in next 2 – 3 years?  And what key question or issue they are struggling with?  See their presentations:

There is an open invitation for members to join any of the communities of practice.  Please contact the National Coordinator, Carol Barron, who will make sure you are brought up to date and linked in.

Rev Dr Arapera Ngaha, Geoff Tucker and Peter Glensor refreshed our knowledge on our Weteriana bicultural story with a quiz.  This was a really enjoyable interactive session with great discussion.  It is a great resource which you may like to use with your parish.  Read more.

Siaola, Vahefonua Tongan Methodist Mission, were unable to attend but Kathleen sent a video which you can watch here.

Sinoti Samoa provide significant work in family violence prevention and suicide prevention.  Their presentation can be found here.

We were entertained with the story of  Wesley Rata Village.  Find out more here.
