Social Services

The Methodist Alliance Aotearoa is the umbrella group for the Methodist Missions and parishes delivering social services across New Zealand/Aotearoa.  The Alliance takes the place of the Methodist Mission Aotearoa (MMA).

The Methodist Alliance aims to raise the profile of the work being done by Missions and Parishes across the country.  Currently all the Missions have their own names (Lifewise in Auckland, Wesley Community Action in Wellington, Methodist Social Services, Christchurch Methodist Mission) so most people don't know that we are connected.  While the missions will keep their own names, they will co-brand with the Methodist Alliance Aotearoa/Nga Purapura Weteriana.  Fees and levies that were previously paid to the MMA will now be paid to the Alliance.

Each Mission and Parish stays independent with their own governing body and they will cooperate together more intentionally on common issues.  This may include work with children and families, aged care and housing.  For example, the Methodist Alliance drafted a submission to government on the Oranga Tamariki bill and spoke to it at Select Committee.

The work of the Alliance is overseen by the Alliance Steering Committee.  This work includes approval of the logo, drafting a strategic plan, code of conduct, and policies and procedures.

If you would like to join the Alliance, or have any questions, please contact the National Coordinator:

How can cycles of dependency, disadvantage and need be broken?

How can people be enabled to lives lives of dignity and worth?

These are the questions which underpin the work of Methodist Missions and Parishes as they express the love of God in local communities.

From aged care to child care, from Op shops to training opportunites, the services are as varied as the need.
