The Mission and Ecumenical committee has oversight of the relationship of the Methodist Church of New Zealand to the following ecumenical bodies:
World Council of Churches (WCC)
Christian Conference of Asia (CCA)
Councils / Conferences of Churches
Christian World Service (CWS)
Churches Agency on International Issues (CAII)
These are all important working relationships for The Methodist Church of New Zealand. Over the years many people in the life of our church have benefited from attending and being involved in courses, conferences and assemblies of ecumenical bodies. All provide significant forms of ecumenical formation for leaders in our church.
"The Decade to Overcome Violence" (DOV) is an important ecumenical initiative at this time. It is a response to the disturbing reality of violence at world and local levels. The DOV was launched by the WCC in January 2001 at a Central Committee meeting in Berlin. The CCANZ has made it a major thrust of its life and work and this year CCANZ has appointed a co-ordinator of its DOV programme. A number of local church initiatives are already underway in response to the DOV. Mission and ecumenical will be reporting on these to the Methodist conference later in the year.
Mission and Ecumenical is also represented on the 'Anglican-Methodist Dialogue'.
