The Methodist Alliance is the formal alliance for:

·       Methodist missions

·       Methodist and Cooperating Venture/Union parishes who are engaged in social service or community  work

·       Trusts and community based social services associated with a Methodist or Cooperating Venture/Union Church (with a Methodist component).

The Methodist Alliance takes the place of the Methodist Mission Aotearoa (MMA).

The Methodist Alliance aims to raise the profile of the work being done by Missions and Parishes across the country.  Currently all the Missions have their own names (Lifewise in Auckland, Wesley Community Action in Wellington, Methodist City Action in Hamilton, Christchurch Methodist Mission) so most people don't know that we are connected.  While the missions will keep their own names, they will co-brand with the Methodist Alliance Aotearoa/Nga Purapura Weteriana.  Each Mission and Parish stays independent with their own governing body and they will cooperate together more intentionally on common issues.  This may include work with children and families, aged care and housing.

The work of the Methodist Alliance is overseen by the Methodist Alliance Steering Committee.  This work includes strategic planing, drafting policies and procedures, brand management, and national advocacy.    For example, the Methodist Alliance drafted a submission to government on the Oranga Tamariki bill and spoke to it at Select Committee.

How can cycles of dependency, disadvantage and need be broken?

How can people be enabled to lives lives of dignity and worth?

These are the questions which underpin the work of Methodist Missions and Parishes as they express the love of God in local communities.

From aged care to child care, from Op shops to training opportunites, the services are as varied as the need.
