Te Aroha and Paeroa Co-operating Parishes, through their respective community trust organisations, combine each year to organise Day Camp on a hill property between the two towns. Now into its third decade, Day Camp - in fact 4 days - has become a much loved activity in the Spring School holidays. Pictured here are the 178 primary school children, 40 teenage leaders and 20 adult helpers that combined with (mostly) fine weather to make the 2013 a huge success. It was a great camp, no major accidents, and everyone had a fantastic time.

From Whitianga, Rev Mary Petersen writes:

As well as weekly Mainly Music, monthly Messy Church, annual Day Camp for 300+ children and leadership training for 50+ teens, and various other occasional events to do with families, Mercury Bay Co-operating Parish is now feeding people every Monday night. There have been up to 160 meals provided free each week – either to those who come and eat at the church or delivered to them at home.

We have come into contact with a whole different group of people through this project which began in May 2013. Many of them are families really struggling to provide food and clothing for their children. We give away clothes from the Op Shop to these families too. We also follow up on other needs identified from contact with these families.

This project is literally ' letting the children live'.
