This is a thriving congregation that has been open to all kinds of innovation over the last three or more decades. Long before the term local shared ministry was thought of, Mangapapa Union had developed styles of lay leadership that were creative and empowering. Much of the initiative came from Rev Nivan Ball, who saw the relevance of Wesley's model of lay empowerment for the congregation. At times it has also wanted and needed presbyteral leadership not to replace but to complement its varieties of ministry.
Stewart Patrick and Natural Church Development
Currently Stewart Patrick is the key lay leader, a position he has held for several years. Stewart has been using the model of Natural Church Development, a way of analysing and developing healthy congregations.
