OUR RECENT JOURNEY
As a result of the 2011 February and June earthquakes our 98 year old worship centre
(the oldest in the seaside village of New Brighton) was severely damaged.
In September 2011 it was demolished.
Now there is an open expanse of shingle where the building once stood.
Soon after the first big quake we held our Sunday service on the beach.
Then for a few months in a local cafe.
Since winter 2011 we have been worshipping in our undamaged hall.
In the meantime we wait and dream of new possibilities that might emerge for our empty site.
This is a process we engage in with hope and faith, and in conversation with the wider community.
We believe that God will do some new thing in this place that we love and enjoy.
God hasn't finished with us yet, what has been is only the beginning of an unfolding good news story.
Hot off the Press. We are collaborating with the famous New Brighton Pirate Band
to hold a Tribute Service for the late, great, folk singer Pete Singer in our hall in June.
It is important that Christchurch celebrate his huge contribution to both music
and great movements of social change across the world.
Most of the service will involve community singing of his most well-known songs.
Please "like" our facebook page. We often post interesting snippets of our emerging life.
Our Backstage Community Theatre is showing another quality documentary
on this Sunday afternoon (March 16) called "Waiting for Superman".
It is a powerful look at the education system in the U.S.
and some of the truths about Charter schools.
Entry by gold coin koha. Discussion afterwards.
