INSPIRATION FOR THE AUTUMNAL MONTHS:
"In my own experience of autumn, I am rarely aware that seeds are being planted.
Instead, my mind is on the fact that the green growth of summer is browning and beginning to die.
My delight in the autumn colours is always tinged with melancholy, a sense of impending loss that is only heightened by the beauty all around.
I am drawn down by the prospect of death more than I am lifted by the hope of new life.
"But as I explore autumn's paradox of dying and seeding, I feel the power of metaphor.
In the autumnal events of my own experience, I am easily fixated on surface appearances - on the decline of meaning,
the decay of relationships, the death of a work.
And yet if I look more deeply, I may see the myriad possibilities being planted
to bear fruit in some season yet to come".
(Parker J. Palmer, in Let Your Life Speak)
OUR RECENT JOURNEY
As a result of the 2011 February and June earthquakes our 98 year old worship centre
(the oldest in the seaside village of New Brighton) was severely damaged.
In September 2011 it was demolished.
Now there is an open expanse of shingle where the building once stood.
Soon after the first big quake we held our Sunday service on the beach.
Then for a few months in a local cafe.
Since winter 2011 we have been worshipping in our undamaged hall.
In the meantime we wait and dream of new possibilities that might emerge for our empty site.
This is a process we engage in with hope and faith, and in conversation with the wider community.
We believe that God will do some new thing in this place that we love and enjoy.
God hasn't finished with us yet, what has been is only the beginning of an unfolding good news story.
Loopy Tunes has got off to a cracking start for the term with twelve families
now joining the music and movement on Monday mornings.
Our street noticeboard in Union Street is being revamped and updated.
We'll see the changes on Mon/Tues next week (May 27/28).
New office progress. The builder has got up a good head of steam, and will complete his work next week.
At that point other tradesmen will be on site. Planning an opening/blessing on Sunday 23rd June at 2.00pm.
Mini-cardboard chapel. Confirmation that we will have one of these inspirational structures
created by Peter Majendie on site, in time for the blessing of the office..
