MethodistChurch Selects National Leaders for 2005/06
The national Conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand – Te Haahi Weteriana o Aotearoa selected the President and Vice President to lead the church for 2005-06 this afternoon.
The Rev Dr John Salmon was appointed President Elect of the Church, and Mrs Mary West Vice-President Elect.
John lives in Auckland and currently tutors in Theology at TrinityMethodistTheologicalCollege and is a former Vice-President of the Church. He has held significant positions in theological education including Principal of Trinity Methodist Theological College, and President of the Auckland Consortium for Theological Education.Rev Dr Salmon’s appointment today marks the first occasion on which a Minister who was a former Vice-President of the Church has later been selected for the position of President.
Mary recently retired from a significant career in the nursing profession and lives in Hamilton.In October she completed a two-year term as National President of the Methodist Women’s Fellowship.
Mary and John will be inducted to their positions on November 5th 2005 at the next National Methodist Conference which will be held in Christchurch.
